AI “art” makes my skin crawl. But, I firmly believe creativity is the Christian’s birthright and we creatives, empowered by the Creator, have an opportunity to turn the very real and dire threat of AI into a reorienting vision for our creative work. AI may have our last word, but we have the new words, the new images, the new ideas. We can resist by refusing to let AI scare us away from what is ours—it is we who are created in the image of God. Romans 1:22, 25, “Professing to be wise, they became fools . . . For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” AI can’t dream. So, dream big, friends! And keep creating!
There's someone in my life with whom it was initially very difficult to find common ground. Unexpectedly--I mean, like, WAY out of left field--we connected over 'Napoleon Dynamite.' Can you imagine what we'll lose when films are personalized?
In that world, instead of directors or even actors, viewers suddenly become tastemakers. "Let's go to Seth's house--his taste in movies is amazing and he really knows how to prompt the AI and get something good!" Suddenly, viewer-creativity is integral to some other viewers' appreciation of the experience.
And need we say anything about "the feelies" in Huxley's 'Brave New World'?
If I was a porn star, I would be in a crazy panic mode. I don't know why they're not on strike? No one cared about writers and actors on strike, but imagine the uproar when there would be no porn (at least, no longer than 1 minute porn) for, say, a couple of months? Yeah.
PS: I'm not an ai sceptic, I detest it. Jobless since November as a direct impact of this amazing technology.
Yet more reason to ground ourselves in the real world -- the world outside screens, that can be seen and touched, that we can be hurt by, the world that challenges and shapes us in the image of its Maker, our Maker, one real day at a time.
