What an amazing piece! That moment- that nightmare moment. And such beautiful imagery of your neighbours.

That story about the dwarf catching the sun reminded me of a myth here in Aotearoa. Briefly, Tamanui te Ra (Big boy the Sun) rushes across the sky too fast every day, and nobody has time to get anything done. Māui and his brothers trap the Sun with ropes as he rises from his pit in the East, and Māui beats the Sun up with his Grandmother's magic jawbone (also the hook he uses to fish up the North Island- Te Ika a Māui- Māui's Fish). The Sun is bruised and chastened and promises to go more slowly across the sky. The shafts of light that come through the clouds at sunset- crepuscular rays- are called 'Māui's ropes'.
